How much internet do you need to stream games?
Now that we are in the modern era of technology, it's easy to access the internet. We have access to the internet from dial-up, DSL, cable, fiber, and satellite. It's hard not to have the internet at this point. But do we have enough internet speed to stream video games? For your everyday task of downloading documents or watch youtube videos, you don't need crazy fast download speeds. A two-page word document is about 8 Kilobits which even the slowest internet can download in a matter of seconds, and watch a youtube video at 1080p(HD). You need to have a sustained speed of 5 Mbps, according to google. Again meeting these speed requirements is easily attainable.
Now, let's find out how much speed we need to play a video game in the cloud. When looking at Google's internet requirements for 1080p 60 fps, you need to have a constant 20 Mbps and 35 Mbps for 4k streaming(subscription required). That's a lot of data that needs to be downloaded to play a video game. Now that we know this information, do people have this much internet? Well, according to speedtest.net, the United States download speed 182.69 Mbps as of March 2021. That tells us nearly everyone in the US will be able to play video games (on stadia) at 4k. Now there's more to download speed to play on the cloud, but this is an essential factor.
